WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR SESSIONS

At this difficult time your first session is a chance to get to know each other, and for you to decide if I am the right counsellor for you. We will need to spend some time agreeing a way of working together. For example discussing what you want from counselling, if you have a particular number of sessions you are thinking of committing to, or if you are happy to work with an open ended number of sessions and see how things go. Discussing this will fill some of our time for the first session, and so you will not have the full usual 50 minutes of the session to start to talk about your issues.
Sessions cost £55. Payment should be made 24 hours in advance of sessions, via bank transfer. Sessions will last no longer than 50 minutes.
Costs may vary for clients referred from alternative organisations.
You have made a very brave decision in coming to counselling. At first it can be difficult and you may sometimes not feel like coming to sessions. Rather than cancelling for this reason, please do attend, as it is important for us to explore your feelings together, in order to help you move towards your overall aim of coming to counselling.
You telling me you did not feel like coming to a session will not offend me. The nature of our work will be about being very honest about how you feel, and this can be an important start.
However sometimes life throws us unavoidable situations such as illness. If it is necessary for you to cancel, a minimum of 24 hours cancellation notice is required. If less than 24 hours notice is given, a full session fee will still need to be paid.
It is important to make a commitment to counselling. If you miss three consecutive sessions it might be that counselling is not right for you at this point in your life, and it might be best if we end work together until the time is right for you. You are welcome to return at any time.

It is important that any other issues, other than session arrangements, are discussed within the sessions. You never know where open discussion and queries can lead to in your journey. You may experience some ‘light-bulb’ moments at the most unexpected times in discussion during counselling.
If you are in crisis with your mental health outside of sessions you should contact your GP or the emergency services.
